My mountain goat hunts are conducted near Prince William Sound and into the Chugach Mountain Range.  There are exceptional World-Class trophy mountain goats within my 12,800 square mile Guide Use Area.  Goats with horns in excess of 54 Boone & Crockett inches are available.  The possibility of a New World Record Pope & Young mountain goat is reasonable.  High scoring record book goats have come from these regions during the past 70 years.

During fall mountain goat hunts, exceptional trophy black bear, wolf and wolverine are available no extra charge.  Mountain goat hunts are ten (10) days duration; all-inclusive from Anchorage, Alaska.  This includes ground transportation and air charter to/from the field.  One-on-one and two-on-one (hunter:guide ratio) hunts are available.
Access to various camp locations is by highly modified Piper PA-18 aircraft and all hunting is done on foot.  THESE ARE NOT BACKPACK HUNTS!  To the contrary, camps are situated with or very close to mountain goats.  Therefore, we are NOT carrying a camp on our backs, but instead, we view goats right from where the plane deposited us.

Alaska Mountain Goat Hunting

Fall (September 1 - 30)

A goat hunt for the Coastal Mountain Goat is a rewarding and memorable experience. South Central Alaska boasts some of the state’s highest goat concentrations, and is known to produce many trophy class mountain goats. Our way to mountain goat hunt has the advantage of hunting these highly productive areas from the warmth and safety of a secure vessel. It is extremely important to book early if you are interested in this hunt. Availability is limited and usually booked well in advance.

BRITISH COLUMBIA MOUNTAIN GOAT HUNTING

HUNT IN NORTHERN British Columbia FOR CANADIAN MOUNTAIN GOATS

Our goat hunts, like most goat hunts, require a hunter who is in excellent shape, and who is not scared of heights.  It’s pretty simple.  You need to be able to climb to where the goats are, or you will not get one.

Most of our goat hunts are straight backpack hunts – you fly (float plane) into a remote lake, and hike from there.  The distance you need to hike to ‘goat country’ varies with the hunt you book.  We can arrange to provide a ‘horseback assisted’ goat hunt, which will help you get to the bottom of the goat mountains; however, you still need to be able to climb up the rocks when you get there.  Our goats are not (usually) found in horse friendly terra

ALASKA MOUNTAIN GOAT HUNTING, HAINES

It is a biologically- proven fact that the Mountain Goats of the greater Haines, Alaska area are the largest bodied Mountain Goats in the world.

Over many years of hunting gigantic Billy Goats, my claims of harvesting 400 pound Mountain Goats were dismissed by biologists; until the Alaska Department of Fish and Game instigated a Mountain Goat survey in which they darted and weighed several animals within our permitted Guide Use Area.  Imagine their surprise when they discovered that the mid-summer weight of some Billy Goats exceeded 390 pounds.  I know that we sometimes harvest fall-weight goats that exceeded 420 pounds.

It is a local genetic anomaly that causes our Goats to grow to such immense proportions, and to harvest one of our unique “Gorilla Goats” in fall pelage is to harvest one of North America’s most prestigious trophies.

The horns of our mature Billy Goats have unusually thick bases, and they will commonly reach a length of nine and three-eighths inches, and some Goat horns may occasionally reach a length of ten inches or longer.  We have taken several Billy Goats that qualified for the Boon and Crocket Record Book.

The Goat pelts start to winter-up in late August, and by mid-September, they are very respectable trophies.  Before mid-October, the pelts are fully winter-prime.
